I played CTR a few times, but only if I had someone to play against – which wasn’t often because, as far as I know, none of my friends played & my kids moved on to other games, so did I. But now with this remaster, it was time to race my way to high anxiety once again! *LOL*

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled

CTR: Nitro-Fueled, like the original CTR from 1999, has the offbeat Crash Bandicoot and his crew of outlandish friends & enemies as they work together to stop the villainous Nitros Oxide from taking over the world. I haven’t played many racing games, but this is one of my favorites, even with some frustrating moments.

Crashing into walls, getting slaughtered by items that I hadn’t seen before, issues with the power slides, and driving off the track and over the edge of the ‘track’ (okay, the last one is on me). Instead of anxiety, I was mad – not crazy mad, but mad mad. I usually laugh crap like that away, but it was really making me mad. However, after the first five or so races, I got back in the swing of things, and didn’t drive off of the track … as much. 🙂

There’s a single player adventure mode, with the 18 original tracks, available to play in this mode and is broken down into mini-worlds. The game is linear in the beginning, but once you win and get first place in that world, you unlock the chance to beat the world’s boss in a race. If you beat the boss, you get a key to open up different races to get more collectibles.

Adventure mode is a great way to unlock and obtain more collectibles, if you want to rush through and defeat and challenge Nitros Oxide right away (you will have to challenge him twice anyway). You can also take your time and check out the different race types, which is what I opted to do because that’s how I roll … XD.

You can also select the difficulty you want to play on in Adventure Mode, or you can play in classic mode. Classic mode is a little more unyielding with the layout, you aren’t able to change your character out after you select it, and you there’s no vehicle customization.

Along with the regular three lap races, there’s also CTR challenges and Relic Races – which are needed for the endgame content. In the regular races, you’ll need to win the race and collect the letters CTR, which are in some pretty out of the way places. You may have to take a once around the track to and see where they’re located.

My Rating 4/5 ★★★★

I like Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled more than other kart racing games because I prefer the characters, graphics, tracks, and race mechanics better. The difficulty selection provides more of a challenge for the player that likes that sort of punishment … XD

  • Beautiful, vibrant graphics
  • Challenging content
  • Has difficulty selection mode
  • Has multiplayer option

  • Lacks
    horizontal split screen
  • Sometimes
    horribly difficulty
  • No
    online support
  • Some
of the characters have a rather generic design

Happy Gaming!

  1. Hello there! I just want to ascertain the credibility of the hyping I have gotten concerning this crash team racing nitro fueled game and I must say, this review has convinced me that it is worthy of the hype. My son adores racing games and as such, I wish to get this for him but wanted to be sure of the content before going for it. It seems to be an excellent game with so much wow moments. Cool!

I’m glad you liked the review and that it helped you make an informed decision about whether or not to get Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled for your son. I know your son will have a blast playing it. 🙂

      Have a blessed day.

  2. Crash is one of my favourite games. It combined racing and outlandish madness if many different characters. I hoped that there would’ve been a more worse villain in the game though. I enjoyed playing it. The adventure was one of my favourite. I too have moved from this game but its cool to read this post because I can really relive the moment on those tracks in my head right now. Great review.

Thanks for dropping by and checking out my review. I’m guessing that since all they did was remaster the game, that they kept the same villains, which was cool but they could’ve added a couple of new ones – just to add a twist or two. :=)  I’m glad you enjoyed the review.

      Have a blessed day.

  3. This game sounds like TONS of fun!  It would be especially fun in multi-player mode at a party, I would think.  Its great that it comes with different tracks and levels that you need to crack.  I especially like that you can select the difficulty level.  I know when I’m first starting a new game, I prefer and easy mode and then ramp it up from there!  I can just imagine getting as mad as you, especially when driving off the road (which would be me, too!).  All in all you could spend HOURS on this game and I’m sure it would be a good investment for the fun you would get out of it!

Oh it’s definitely fun. I played it for a hours, and the only reason I stopped is because I had to go pick up a friend – otherwise I would have probably been playing all night.

The one thing I learned is that I do good in Easy mode, alright in Medium mode, and horrible in Hard mode. These things are good to know and the option to switch between the different modes is nice. XD

I’m glad you liked my review and found it helpful.

      Have a blessed day.

  4. Lokhi,

Ok I’m not a big gamer, but reading your post I was actually enticed to play. I am looking for this game, and it sounds like something my lovely wife would enjoy. We are always looking for things to do together and we want to get a good system to play games. I like the idea of involvement by changing character, and building your car that is neat. The fact that you also have many things to do and races to complete in order to unlock more is actually exciting as well. That just means it won’t be boring, and it sound competitive and challenging.

I’m glad my review was helpful for you and, if you get it, you two will enjoy playing it together. Y’all should make bets on things like the loser has to do the dishes for a week, or something like that. *LOL*

I, too, like that more things were added for us to do. It makes the game more fun and last longer. It makes the game that much more awesome. 🙂

      Have a blessed day.
